Cardiac Risk Calcium Scoring is a non-invasive, painless scanning technology that measures the amount of plaque buildup in the coronary arteries. The procedure, which usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete and costs only $99, can help predict heart disease in people who appear perfectly healthy. Patients pass through a CT scanner that produces images of the coronary arteries. These images are used to help detect the early stages of coronary heart disease

Who should consider having a Cardiac Risk Calcium Scoring?

A heart attack can strike anyone, regardless of age or level of fitness. There are risk factors; however, that may indicate a predisposition to heart disease. If you are over 40 years of age with one or more of the following risk factors, Cardiac Risk Calcium Scoring might benefit you:

• Family history of early heart disease, heart attack or stroke
• High cholesterol levels
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Smoking
• Obesity and/or prolonged inactivity
• Stress

Persons with documented coronary artery disease should not consider Cardiac Risk Calcium Scoring.
